CapRelo is proud to have supported a great cause by participating in the "Fill the Bus" campaign to help donate classroom supplies to young students in Northwest Arkansas.
Fill the Bus is a fundraiser hosted by United Way and Walmart in which volunteers park an empty bus outside of a Walmart Supercenter and attempt to fill it with donated school supplies. The supplies are then sent directly to the local school districts where they are then distributed to students who otherwise would go without.
A group of CapRelo employees went to the Walmart Supercenter on Pleasant Street in Springdale and purchased various school supplies to help fill the bus.
"It was quite shocking to know that 50% of children here in thriving Northwest Arkansas do not have the supplies they need to start school," said CapRelo employee and Fill the Bus volunteer Taylor Grimes. "If 50% of children in [this area] are going without supplies, what are the amounts in other areas that do not have the growth that we have? Our team here at CapRelo in Bentonville donated two buggies full of items such as pocket folders, notebook paper, spiral notebooks and more."
United Way reminds donors that while the choices of school supplies may seem obvious, most donors forget that there are older kids who could use help too. Consider purchasing highlighters or three-ring binders over crayons and markers, or ask volunteers what the bus may be missing.
"This event was very humbling," Taylor noted. "Many people wanted to donate but also stated they needed the help. It was nice to be able to say, 'step over to that bus, and they will set your kids up with the supplies they need.' The look of unexpectedness and relief in their face was unexplainable."
You can help Fill the Bus too! Benton, Madison and Washington counties in Arkansas and McDonald County in Missouri are all participating. For more information, click here for United Way's webpage for Fill the Bus.
