Meet John Travers: CapRelo's VP of Business Development and Sales

Posted by Shirien Elamawy on Tue, Jan 06, 2015

We recently sat down with John to learn more about his role at CapRelo and what he enjoys doing in his spare time.

What does it mean to be Vice President of Business Development and Sales?

CapRelo has put its trust in my capabilities to grow our brand within the Federal Government and I am excited about that.  My primary focus and principal goal is to ensure we meet and exceed the expectations of the federal government so that CapRelo remains its supplier/provider of choice.   From my view, I believe I have the responsibility for ensuring that goal is achieved.

How long have you been with CapRelo? What's your favorite part about your position?

I have been with CapRelo since May, so roughly eight months.  My favorite part about being with the company is interacting with our current clients and future prospects.  This is only the third company I have ever worked for and am new to the relocation business.  I find it very intriguing, challenging, and rewarding.

Even though I have a broad range of experience working directly with the federal government, this industry is new territory for me and I see limitless opportunities ahead. It is invigorating.

What do you do in your spare time, what are some of your interests?

I'm like that 6 year child whose mom can't get them back in the house for dinner.  I really enjoy spending my spare time outdoors.  Most of my time is spent landscaping or doing outside home improvements.  This could be at my own home or just helping out a friend. When not in the yard I am enjoying another passion - being on the water.

I've owned a boat for most of my adult life and really enjoy the relaxation of being on the water by boat or Jet Ski.  I admit I have too many toys.  I bought my first Harley in 2003.    I grew up on dirt bikes and have owned motor bikes of all shapes and sizes.

Finally, I enjoy sports.  More recently, I've been more interested in golf - however I only find time for that when we go on vacation!  I have four dogs, two cats, and a bird.

CapRelo Partners with the Tech Council of Maryland

Posted by Shirien Elamawy on Tue, Nov 11, 2014

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Maryland’s largest technology trade association for life science and technology, The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM).

The partnership is designed to deliver informative programming focused on talent acquisition to the Council’s members and to support higher education in science, technology, engineering, and math, (STEM).

Over the next year, CapRelo will host a series of programs to educate TCM members on talent management strategies. The first event, a Talent Acquisition Roundtable, is scheduled for November 20 and will focus on strategies for STEM-related talent recruiting and retention. Representatives from CapRelo and Helios HR will discuss how recruitment policies, benefits, and employment offers can give companies a strategic business advantage.

“CapRelo approached us with a unique strategic partnership, which went far beyond a traditional membership or scholarship program,” said Philip Schiff, TCM’s CEO. “We look forward to working with the companies to bring greater value to our membership as we continue efforts to ensure that Maryland high tech and life sciences business communities are world-class.”

The TCM is the largest technology trade group serving the advanced technology and biotechnology communities of Maryland. TCM’s mission is to advocate for the interests of the technology community, further the role of technology in the Maryland economy, and nurture an environment where technology companies can collaborate, grow, and succeed.

In addition, CapRelo’s sister company, JK Moving Services, will award a $2,500 scholarship to a student pursuing a STEM degree at a Maryland college or university. Criteria and application details for the scholarship will be announced in early 2015.

CapRelo Employees Host Halloween Event at "The Gathering Place"

Posted by Shirien Elamawy on Thu, Nov 06, 2014

On Friday, October 31st CapRelo employees hosted a charitable event at "The Gathering Place" in Denver, Colorado.

The Gathering Place is Denver's only daytime drop-in center for women, children, and transgender individuals who are experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Since 1986, they have been a community of safety and hope.

For Halloween, CapRelo employees hosted an event full cheer. Costumes, Halloween books, bags of candy, food, and other supplies were all donated to the center.

The kids had games, cookie decorating, and stories being read aloud to them.

"Happiness came from making one little boy smile and giggle as if he had no care in the world," said Lorraine Gunsauls, Relocation Counselor.

The Hyatt also donated men and women's kits of toiletries such as shavers, deodorant, toothbrushes, and more.

Special thank you to Keela Shumard, Tamara Bianchi and her son Preston, Lorraine Gunsauls, Karen Pocius, Cindy Klammer, Nicole Overholt, Andrea Tate and the whole Denver CapRelo team for putting this event together and making it a success.

Below are some pictures from the event.
